About Us

WHO WE ARE

Founding History

The Loving Hearts Animal Society was founded by a group of animal advocates upon realizing that their communities were underserved by local no-kill animal welfare organizations.

A majority of the communities within the East and Southeast Texas Counties of Jasper, Tyler, Newton, San Augustine, and Sabine, which have a combined population of approximately 89,600 residents within an area of over 4,000 square miles, must travel 80 miles or more to the nearest no-kill animal shelter.  And unfortunately, most no-kill shelters in other counties are either already full or unable to accept homeless animals from other municipalities.

Consequently, many homeless animals are left abandoned to fend for themselves in these areas, which has resulted in packs of wild dogs and large colonies of feral cats that are considered a public nuisance by local authorities that must be trapped and euthanized.

According to national shelter data, the state of Texas ranks first in the country for animal euthanasia, and only about 32% of the shelters in the entire state are no-kill facilities.

The founding members of the Loving Hearts Animal Society believe that by providing readily accessible shelter, rescue and adoption services, raising community awareness, and partnering with local authorities, it is possible to achieve an alternative solution to the use of euthanasia to bring the homeless animal population in our communities under control.

OUR CURRENT STAFF

Meet Our Team

The Loving Hearts Animal Society is a family for animal advocacy.

Our organization began when a mother and daughter joined forces to make a difference in the lives of homeless animals in their community, and now they have an extended family of loving hearts working alongside them.
